A typical insulated panel roof from Eco Tech costs £3,000 to £7,500 fitted, is finished in one to three days and carries a 10 year insurance backed warranty. Each 75 mm panel works out at a U-value near 0.43, so roughly 80 percent less heat escapes through the roof than through 16 mm polycarbonate. Everything else is below.
We have put these 22 questions in the order most customers raise them with us: money first, then how the room will feel, then the fitting itself, then permissions and regulations, and last of all looking after the roof. Every reply is brief, and most point you to a page or guide with the full picture.

All questions
What does a replacement conservatory roof with insulated panels cost?
Most of our customers pay between £3,000 and £7,500 fitted. Prices start at £3,000 for a small roof up to 12 m², £4,000 for a medium roof and £5,000 for a large or P-shaped one. Our roof panel price guide lists every size and style.
What do I get for that price?
We strip out the old roof and recycle it, make the panels to measure in your colour, fit them and register the 10 year insurance backed warranty. The survey is free, and so is taking the waste away.
What do the extras cost?
Each glazed roof light is £395, a set of LED spotlights is £345 and new gutters with fascia are £295. Most homes have one or two roof lights fitted in the panels to keep some daylight.
Why is a Victorian dearer than a lean-to of equal size?
More facets mean more cutting, more joints and more seals. Taking the lean-to as the base price, add roughly 6% for an Edwardian, 10% for a Victorian, 12% for a gable end and 16% for a P-shape.
Can I get a grant towards a new conservatory roof?
Usually not. Conservatory roofs are not normally covered by the main government insulation schemes, and the 0% VAT rate on energy saving materials does not usually include roof panels. Our guide to grants and finance has the detail, including spreading the cost with finance through Kanda, subject to status.
How much warmer will the room get?
Heat loss through the roof falls by about 80 percent compared with 16 mm polycarbonate. Against 25 mm sheet the cut is about 73 percent. For a 12 m² roof on a 0°C night that means losing about 103 W rather than 552 W. Our comparison of polycarbonate against insulated panels goes further.
Will the conservatory still overheat in summer?
It should not. Under glass or polycarbonate, temperatures of 35 to 40°C are common on sunny days, and a solid insulated roof keeps that direct sun out. See our guide to a conservatory that is too hot in summer.
Will the room feel dark afterwards?
It will be less bright than under a clear roof, though the windows around the sides still bring in a good amount of light. A glazed roof light or two keeps a view of the sky, and spotlights cover the evenings. Our guide on whether a solid roof makes a conservatory darker explains more.
Will the drips of condensation stop?
For the most part. Old glass and polycarbonate roofs are cold on the underside, so moisture in warm air condenses on them and drips. The inner face of our panel stays near room temperature, so that largely ends. Read our guide to stopping condensation in a conservatory roof.
Is a panel roof quieter when it rains?
Much quieter. The foam core absorbs the sound, so a heavy downpour is a gentle patter rather than a drumming. Our guide to conservatory roof rain noise covers it fully.
Will the panels sit on the frame I already have?
In most homes they will. Our panels weigh little enough for the majority of uPVC and aluminium frames already in place, and before we order anything our surveyor inspects the ridge, the glazing bars and the dwarf walls. Our guide to checking your frame for a solid roof lists those checks.
How many days will you be on site?
One day for a small lean-to or Edwardian, one to two days for a medium roof and two to three for a large roof or a P-shape. Our process page walks through a fitting day from start to finish.
How soon after the survey is the roof fitted?
Usually 3 to 5 weeks. That time goes on making your panels to measure from the figures our surveyor takes.
Do you put up scaffolding?
On most single storey conservatories, no. Our fitters use ladders and roof staging instead, which means no scaffold costs for you.
Where does the old roof go?
We dismantle it and take it away for recycling, whether it is polycarbonate sheet or glass units. You will not need a skip on your drive.
Is planning permission needed for a solid conservatory roof?
Not normally, as the conservatory keeps the same footprint and height. If your home is a listed building, or sits in a conservation area, national park or National Landscape, ask your council first. Our guide to planning permission for a replacement conservatory roof has more.
Will building regulations apply?
In most cases they will. A conservatory only stays exempt while at least 75% of its roof lets light through, so a solid insulated roof ends that exemption. Check what applies to your home; our guide to the regulations for a solid roof sets out the rules.
Does your panel reach the 0.15 U-value in Approved Document L?
No, and we will not claim it does. Approved Document L sets 0.15 as the target for a new roof element, while our 75 mm panel comes out at about 0.43.
What warranty comes with the roof?
A 10 year insurance backed warranty through HomePro. It covers leaks from the panels and seals, faults in the panels and our workmanship, and the insurer would still honour it if we ever ceased trading. Our warranty page lists what is and is not included.
What upkeep does the roof need?
Clean out the gutters twice a year. When the panels look dirty, a wash with warm soapy water is all they need. Do not use a pressure washer, stand on the roof or drill into the panels.
Which colours are available?
Outside, any RAL colour, though anthracite grey and white are the most chosen. Inside, the panels are white. Our conservatory roof colours page shows examples.
Could I have roof lights put in later on?
It is far easier to include them when the roof goes on, because each panel is made to measure around the lights. Try to decide at survey, and let us know of any change of heart before we place the order.
